- When is a good time to travel?

The climate in our primary hunting and fishing areas is moderate with no particular rainy season. The seasons in the Southern hemisphere are of course the reverse of the seasons in the northern hemisphere, with high temperatures from November-April (70-80 degrees), and May-October (60-65 degrees). The humidity is low. It usually does not freeze but from May-October there can be low temperatures (30-40 degrees). The area we operate can experience up to 6 inches of rain in some months, but is dry from May-October. It is a great way to take a break from cold winters, or beat the summer heat. - What is the currency?

The official currency is the peso and the current exchange rate is 1 to 3.1, dollar vs. peso. Most shops in Buenos Aires will accept dollars and give you change in pesos if they do not have dollars. Credit cards are widely accepted, especially American Express, Visa, Mastercard and Diners International. Travellers checks are not always accepted and when they are, banks and shops will charge approximately 3% for exchanging them. For personal checks, banks also charge between 2-3% for exchanging them. We suggest that you bring cash and use credit cards and/or personal checks for higher expenses. It is always a good idea to check the exchange rate before departure.

- Is there good shopping?

Argentina is a shopper's haven for leather, wool garmets, fine gemstones, furs, antiques and gaucho goods.

- Are there local taxis?

Taxi cabs in Buenos Aires are painted black with a yellow top. These all run by meter and you will pay the price that appears in pesos on the meter at the end of the journey.

- What medication do I need to bring?

Long distance travelers should always pack medication kits for such common complaints as upset stomach, motion sickness, headache, etc. Visitors to Argentina do not usually experience stomach problems associated with drinking water. However, it is always better to be safe than sorry so when in doubt, ask for bottled water. We recommend medical insurance in the case of an unexpected illness or emergency. -How much should I tip?

Guidelines vary by location but a good rule of thumb is to set aside U$S 35 - 50 per day at our lodges for tips for the staff. It is customary to tip private drivers, city guides, restaurants (10-15%), and hotel bellboys (U$S 1 per bag).

- How can I call home?

Pay phones work with cards that are sold in local kiosks and there are also ´locutorios´, stores with pay phones (open 24 hours a day) where you can pay in cash. To call Argentina from abroad, dial the country code (54) and then the area code of the place you want to call. For domestic calls, dial 0 before the area code. For international calls, dial 00, the country code and city code. To use your mobile you will need to buy an Argentine sim card (about 15 pesos) and insert it into your phone. Each lodge will provide information on cost and specifics for calling back home.
