FIREARMS
- Can I bring my own guns?
Many of our guests bring their own guns, but it is also possible to rent guns at all of our lodges. For details on prices and renting at lodges please contact us or refer to the appropriate pre-trip information pack.
If you decide to bring guns to Argentina, the process is very simple. It is now mandatory that U.S. Customs Form 4457 be filled out and signed by a Customs officer or your guns may be confiscated by Customs. We will send a form to you or you can obtain the form from the Customs Office. You will need to take your guns and any other personal effects such as cameras, etc, that you would like to register. It is then stamped by a Customs Officer. If there is a Customs Office in your city or in the airport from which you will be departing, we strongly suggest that you complete the form before arriving in your gateway city for international departure. If not, please be sure to allow enough time after your arrival to get this process completed at the airport.
We will send you all the necessary papers to give us all the necessary details about your gun.
Upon your arrival in Buenos Aires you will need to have your passport and gun papers available. When you return home you will need to show the form to customs again.
- What do I do when I arrive in Buenos Aires?
Upon arrival, you will be met by a representative of Argentina Outfitters that will assist you with the gun clearance process. The current entry fee is U$S 70 per firearm with a maximum number of 3 guns permitted per adult (age limit: 21).
- Can we bring our own ammunition?
No, under new Argentine law it is illegal to bring shells into the country; they must be sold to you by an outfitter.
- What ammunition will we use?
For dove, pigeon, perdiz and ducks, 12, 20 gauge are suitable; 28 gauge and 410s are for experts only. We recommend you bring two guns. Doubles, semi-autos or pumps are fine. For chokes, we suggest improved cylinder and modified. Screw-in chokes can provide flexibility. Make sure your guns are in good working order before you leave, as this is high-volume shooting in the country and take extra parts for repair if you have them. Guns should be transported in a lockable hard case. It is also a good idea to bring a lightweight storable soft case to carry guns into the field.
- Can I take game back home?
You will need to consult the Fish and Wildlife Service if you plan to import game or a hunting trophy. A license and processing form a taxidermy service is generally required. An inspection for sanitary purposes is also necessary. Please refer to the general guide lines according to the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS).
